In reply to <a href="https://authorkristenlamb.com/2009/09/the-power-of-fear/#comment-491">Bob Mayer</a>.

Well, I am always one to give the advice, "Do what you love and success will follow." I have been guilty of trying to do or write things because I thought I'd succeed quickly, or at least more easily...WRONG. When you do what you love, you never tire and you are willing to put everything you have into it...and THAT is the real fuel of success.

Of course I learned that the hard way, :D.

The switching genres thing is interesting. Frankly, my career has meandered. Looking back, that was a mistake. That's one of the reasons in Warrior Writer, one of the first things I do is have people set long-term, strategic goals. Where do you want to be in five years with your writing?
After 40 books, hitting all the best-seller lists, etc. etc. I had to sit down and decide something that sounds really simple, but isn't: What do I REALLY want to write? I had to ignore the siren call of the market. Sure, knock out a vampire, romance, yada yada (BTW-- I wrote my vampire book years ago and it's still selling: Area 51: Nosferatu).
Then I considered my 'platform'. Big buzz word everyone talks about. So it would seem I should write Special Forces thrillers. Did it. Do I want to write more? Not really.
I had to go to my passion AND consider my platform. And ask for advice from people who knew me.
So I finally locked in on what genre I want to succeed at. And already, my passion is affecting others. My agent is responding positively, because I'm projecting positively.
Of course I have to write the first book.
