Previously I’ve tended to do the panster thing and then retrospectively figure out what the objectives in the story are – which leads to major revisions of dialogue, storylines, themes, settings and character arcs (so… erm, everything really). For this year’s NaNo (under your guidance) I’m doing a lot more definition of objectives prior to the writing.
