Unreliable narration along with fog of war makes a rattling good book. A few omissions here and there, and suddenly the story looks a lot different. I like it when I can trust that the narrator isn’t trustworthy.

I feel like this should be a Mo Willems book: Don’t let the Pigeon Narrate the book:

Pigeon: “I don’t want you to know about those parts where I don’t look so good, so I’ll conveniently forget them. Besides, they weren’t exciting and my lawyer advised me to not include them. They were darlings! I had to kill them. My editor forced me to remove that content, said it wasn’t important. Look, over there, a reliable narrative! You don’t need to know everything anyway. I’m compartmentalizing. It was traumatic, you don’t want to hear about it.”

Wait, what? Who runs an estate probate that way? Is this a reality show? “Kristin has received a text and now she has only 48 hours to GET THE FURNITURE!”
(Camera shows the Lamb house exterior, then a shaky camera showing Kristen in her covid jammies on the phone.)
KRISTEN: I NEED a truck. I don’t care that you’re all dying of Covid, I’ll wear a mask. You wear a mask. Just get me that truck.
NARRATOR VOICE: Kristen doesn’t know that the production company has rented every single truck within a 50 mile radius in order to stymie her efforts.
KRISTEN: Yes, I know you’re in another state, we’ll be by in a jiffy to pick it up.
NARRATOR VOICE: It looks like she’s found one in Oklahoma.
