Clarke wrote about a malevolent smart house killing someone waaay back in the 1990’s for OMNI Magazine. But there are lots of ways to vary the story. Suppose our noble hero explains to the house that his humans have set up the house to perish, too. “Can we collaborate and how about you have a wee chat with *their* houses? After all, if I fail, you’ll die too.”

Also, Kristen could have a blazing romance with the other wife. Maybe that’s what she’s been missing all her life!
