I read your blog outloud to my husband, (who is still laughing hysterically). I’m not sure if it was my ineptness at being able to read outloud Sean Penn’s writing, or the fact I definitely have T.I.S. Your sense of humor is as fantastic as your writing. I…I feel so seen now. So understood.

(And I married someone in the medical community, so when horrible grammar sets off my convulsions he can…okay, so he’d probably just tell me to walk it off or something. Turns out, physicians are AMAZING at taking care of the people in their clinics/hospitals. Their home people?

The advice–and, I kid you not, this is a direct quote–“It’ll get better in a few days.”)

Thanks, Kristen. I’ve been following you for (checks calendar) ELEVEN YEARS?! Times flies when you’re having fun, right? Well, I’m closer to finishing my book than I was five years ago, mostly because your posts egg me on. Still working on that log line, though .

Am I a real writer? Yes, but I like to use your term “pre-published” when people ask what I’ve written. I’ve been pre-published for years now. lol

I know the stats were made up, but I found myself nodding along thinking “Yep, yep, yep …”

I do have a quibble with the cashier/doctor/mechanic parallels though. You don’t generally find random people donning smocks/white coats/overalls and standing behind cash registers/operating tables/workbenches without the knowledge or permission of the employer.

To be fair, that has sometimes happened for doctors, but you’d likely cry foul and call them not a real doctor. But self publishing opened the doors to bypass the traditional gatekeepers, hence the existential angst about being a real writer.
