I also did the describe-everything-in-the-room thing as a newb, but thankfully that was only fanfic, lol.

I love reading evocative descriptions, but it doesn't come naturally to me often, so I always have to go back and add more stuff into a draft. Thankfully, with contemporary romance, I don't have to be as imaginative as fantasy! But I do my best to describe things in the truest way my characters would, and I think I get better at it with each book.

Great stuff! I'm working with a first-time author and recently had this thought: if you're halfway through the sentence and you can't remember what the subject/object was in order to figure out whether the tense is right or wrong -- the sentence is too damned long! Also, try to link every description into the story. If nothing about the description is ever mentioned again and never important (even to the general mood), why is it there? Keep publishing these -- they're super helpful!

What kind of hat will my name be put into?

I've been a follower of your blog for a few years. Not a fan of reading over described scenes or characters, and don't write them. My editor had to ask for more description from me, and I balked, but in the end adding a few more details helped convey the sketch in my own mind. Thank you for the reminder to convey feeling rather than stats.

The art of description can lead to readers who pre-order your books because they can't wait to discover your newest characters. I'm in the less-is-more camp, but those few details must be memorable. The best description I read last year gave me a mental vision of the character that I recall to this day. That's skill!
