About the Class:

Believe it or not, podcasting involves a lot of guess what? WRITING! Even those seemingly freeform podcasts where performers seem to be ‘speaking off the cuff’ are actually scripted.

As with all forms of entertainment, quality is key. Yes, there are seemingly a gazillion other people all jumping on the podcasting bandwagon, but the competition isn’t as fierce as one might believe.

Too many leap into podcasting without any prior preparation. Part of the prep work is to learn how to script episodes that hook and leave listeners not only wanting more, but eager to share your podcast with family and friends.

If we skip over this critical part, it’s easy to ‘hit a wall’ on content because we lack the proper overview of the show we long to create. This is why there are so many abandoned podcasts with only a handful of episodes. The ‘show’ is all over and the sound quality is as appealing as tuning in to listen to fingernails on a chalkboard.

Plan for success! Unlike Introduction to Podcasting, this class deep dives into the nitty gritty of creating a show and dazzling the listeners.

Writing for Podcasting will cover:

  • What do you want to say?
  • Why do you want to say it?
  • HOW MUCH do you have to say (and how to both break it down and make it go the distance)?
  • Two main categories of podcasts
    • Serialized fiction (radio plays)
    • Genre non-fiction podcasts (true crime, biography, science, news, etc.)
  • Writing for fiction podcasts
  • Writing for non-fiction podcasts
  • Technical aspects of writing a ‘script’
  • How to format a script for an ‘unscripted’ and ‘chatty’ style
  • Show notes, attribution, and blog posts
  • Evolving the script and style
  • Speaking of speaking & what you might need to learn or unlearn
  • And more….

About the Instructor

Cait Reynolds is a USA Today Bestselling Author and lives in Long Beach, California with her very patient husband, a cranky old rescue mutt named Horseradish, and two insane Basenji puppies, one of whom is close to taking over North Korea, and one with existential despair.

She likes history, astronomy, Jack Daniels, jewelry, pasta, and solitude. Not all at the same time. She has worked hard to develop a good relationship with the NSA agents in the van outside her house. They now understand that her Google searches and Amazon wish list are purely for research purposes.

Cait is also the co-host of the ‘divinely funny’ podcast, Drunk Mythology Gals, which severely limits which of her book characters she will be hanging with in the afterlife.
